NICARAGUA JULY 2011:
We are blessed with the opportunity of traveling down to Nicaragua once again! The entire Board of the SON Foundation will be in Managua from July 1 - July 5. It will be a short trip but filled with projects!
One thing we are excited about doing is unpacking a shipping container that we helped to send down. These supplies will be unpacked and distributed.

Due to monetary donations that came in for the Children of Destiny orphanage, we were able to help with the logistics of purchasing and transporting a new Kybota tractor down to Miami to be shipped to Nicaragua.
While there we will also be sponsoring a feeding program in a poverty stricken area where children are frequently seen eating out of garbage cans and dumpsters. Our volunteers will assist with the purchase, preparation and distribution of these meals.
Our construction crew will be making minor repairs, instructing the orphanage staff in the use of the new tractor, and prioritizing upcoming renovations to the facilities.
NICARAGUA May 2011:

May brought devastating tornadoes to much of the southeast. Particularly hard hit were parts of Alabama surrounding Tuscaloosa. The families in these areas lost everything. We were able to partner with Millennium Middle School of Sanford, FL in contributing baby items and blankets. These were delivered to MMS for shipment to Alabama in late May.
NICARAGUA March 2011:
Sunday, March 20, several Board Members traveled to Nicaragua to distribute clothing, baby items and medical supplies. We also helped do some small projects at an orphanage located just outside of Managua.
We were in Nicaragua for 5 days and met with Sandra Carter-Britnell, Director of the orphanage, along with other team leaders and discussed what their greatest needs were. We compiled a list of items we will need to collect by the the end of April. We will be busy packing a container for the orphanage in Nicaragua as well as one to send to Colombia, SA that will be helping orphans, hospitals and clinics. We will be assisting the TOMA Foundation with this project.
We are currently working on securing donations in order to ship the containers. The cost to send the first container to Nicaragua will be around $4,000 and will include transportation to the orphanage.
If you would be interested in donating towards shipping costs, please write "Nicaragua" in the memo line of your check and mail to:
SON Foundation P.O. Box 4054 Enterprise, FL 32725
All gifts are tax-deductible.
REMEMBRANCES OF NICARAGUA 2010:
We are getting closer to sending out the 40ft container to Nicaragua! It has been so exciting to see the items come in for the precious orphans in Jinotega and Los Cedros, Nicaragua. We have received backpacks loaded with school supplies, school desks, childrens school chairs, office chairs, toys, clothing, and much more! In addition to the items for the orphanage we were also given a hospital bed, a walker, and various other medical supplies. These particular items will be donated to an extremely needy hospital in Nicaragua. Thanks you so much to all the generous people who gave towards this project! The donations have been sorted, paletized, wrapped and are sitting in Miami waiting to ship.

HAITI 2010:
We were blessed with the opportunity to partner with the TOMA Foundation and Children of Destiny, Nicaragua to send some much needed medical supplies, blankets, clothes and toys to Haiti. We assisted in sorting , packing an paletizing a number of pallets which have already been flown into Haiti by CARE International. These efforts will be continuing in the months and years ahead as donations continue to come in for these needs.
COLOMBIA 2010:
While accepting donations for the orphanages in Nicaragua we realized that we had more than enough to share with a needy orphanage in Bogota, Colombia. We are working together with the TOMA Foundation who has some much needed medical supplies to help with a clinic that the orphanage is needing in order to care for the children.
Here's How You Can Help...
Monetary donations towards shipping costs are a very high priority at this time. We need to get the donations into the hands of the people who need these supplies.
As always' the S.O.N. Foundation Team thanks you for your help with these much needed projects!!
You are very much appreciated! |
